“Therefore, Thrasymachus, it is plain by now that no art or kind of rule provides for its own benefit, but, as we have been saying all along, it provides for and commands the one who is ruled, considering his advantage— that of the weaker— and not that of the stronger” (Socrates, The Republic of Plato, Book 1).
Hi, my name is Adam Henley. I started this blog a couple years ago to practice my writing and to have another creative outlet for things that I find to be either important or that are not talked about enough in the public conversation in the U.S. as far as I know. My vision for this blog is to eventually take all my coursework and essays and make blog entries out of them and to show things I am researching. Topics include Christian faith, political theory, and ancient, medieval, modern, and post-modern philosophy.
“This is perennially the work of the barbarian, to undermine rational standards of judgment, to corrupt the inherited intuitive wisdom by which the people have always lived, and to do this not by spreading new beliefs but by creating a climate of doubt and bewilderment in which clarity about the larger aims of life is dimmed and the self-confidence of the people is destroyed, so that finally what you have is the impotent nihilism of the ‘generation of the third eye,’ now presently appearing on our university campuses…” (John Courtney Murray, We Hold These Truths: Catholic Reflections on the American Proposition)
I am 33 and I just finished my MA in Political Science at Texas State University, San Marcos.
